Oligarchs love Texas. Republicans love Oligarchs and take a LOT of their money. Democrats seem ok with oligarchs too, but get less of their money. We need caps on campaign finance. But while we don’t, we have to understand who is giving, where they are giving, and who is taking. I’m doing my best to serve witness to what is happening in Texas.
A reminder on my previous two pieces:
Ok, you are caught up. Let’s dive in to the top 5 individual donors into Texas politics in the 2024 election cycle.
5. George Soros ($10.6 million) Net Worth $7.2 Billion
Each recipient of Soros $, including their filer ID and amount they received. As you look at each of these charts as you move down the page, the light green color denotes a “non-partisan” PAC, blue is Democrats or a Democratic PAC, and red with white letters is Republicans or a Republican PAC.
Three PACs of note:
Texas Majority PAC $ recipients, including their filer ID and amount they received.
Texas Justice & Public Safety PAC $ recipients, including their filer ID and amount they received.
And lastly, Texas Organizing Project PAC $ recipients, including their filer ID and amount they received.
4. Tim Dunn ($13.3 million) Net Worth $2.2 Billion
Each recipient of Dunn $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
But that’s not all. Dunn also gave via Hexagon Partners, so here is their list:
We have to now look at the series of PACs Dunn funded:
Texans United for a Conservative Majority PAC $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
Defend Texas Liberty PAC $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
Texas Conservative Project PAC $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
Texans for Conservative Leadership PAC $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
So many variations on Conservative. They all equal hard core Christian nationalism. A lot of the other oligarchs on list are down with a lot of what CN brings to the table, they just may not be quite as obvious with it as those aligned with Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks.
3. Miriam Adelson ($13.7 million) Net Worth $31.9 Billion
Each recipient of Adelson $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
Let’s dig into the two PACs.
Texas Defense PAC $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
Texas Sands PAC $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
There are a lot of Democrats on this list, taking billionaire money. More Republicans taking even more billionaire money.
2. Jeff Yass ($18.7 million) Net Worth $49.6 Billion
Each recipient of Yass $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
Yass didn’t have to put his millions into lots of places. He had a Governor to do it for him.
So, lets see where Greg Abbott turned around and spent Yass $.
Each recipient of Greg Abbott Campaign $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
That’s a lot of money pushed from Yass through Abbott to buy vouchers into Texas.
1. Alex Fairly ($23.2 million) Fairly Group CEO
Each recipient of Fairly $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
DealOn LLC, which is also owned by Fairly contributed too.
Each recipient of DealOn LLC $, including their filer ID and amount they received.
What is the Texas Republican Leadership Fund, set up in December 2024, with two donors, Alex giving $20mil and wife Cheryl giving $1k, about? “We need to elect leaders who will stand up for conservative principles and not compromise with the left.” So yet another oligarch pushing what at its core is Christian nationalism onto the state of Texas.
I have heard so many people cheering for “beating the billionaires” with the Speaker election of Dustin Burrows over David Cook. Folks, Wilks and Dunn are just two billionaires. There are a whole lot more jerking Texans around.
People telling you we beat them either don’t understand the scope of what is actually happening, or they do and just want to run a narrative so that you might not notice some of them getting money from billionaires.
You either fight billionaires or you don’t. And you certainly don’t declare victory when we are just getting started.
See It. Name It. Fight It.
I’ll probably have one more post in this series where I tie all of this together, to give you the full scope. Make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss it.
